2019 Foodie Road Ride
80K all day ride takes you through beautiful, and challenging terrain, and fantastic little food venues.
9AM Parking lot Meet up behind Up Street and Most Wanted around the back. (41 Allen Street)
9:15 Receiver Coffee on Victoria Row for a free java boost and collect the stragglers. (km 1.6) 128 Richmond Street. (Victoria Row)
9:30 Cruise through Victoria Park and then head out of town to PEI Preserves Company (km 31), and Glasgow Glen Farms for cinnamon Rolls; well earned after the Ebenezer hills. (34 km along the route) #190 Lower New Glasgow Road, rte 258
Oysterbed Bridge Esso Gas Stop if you need a break for refreshments. (km 42) 4541 Portage Road. (at round about).
Approaching the PEI National Park system, we stop at Great Canadian Soap Company for their unique goat’s milk ice cream, served fresh, on site. (km 44) 4224 Portage Road.
The route flattens as we enter PEI National Park and roll through Brackley and Stanhope along the Golf Shore Parkway. (km 50)
Jan Meulenkamp’s homestead, 2 K up along Union Road will be our official last food stop for a bbq by donation. (aaprox 65K mark) 2050 Union Road.
The ride finishes off back in Charlottetown where we started.
There are many areas where you can deviate from the course to shorten the route, but ultimately, you are responsible for your navigation. There are no sag wagons for this event. Please carry necessary tools and supplies in the event of a mechanical or flat as well as the knowledge to use them. Often fellow cyclists can help you out.
There is no set pace, and no suggestion that you stop at every listed venue. Please be mindful of traffic, and obey the rules of the road. Find a partner who rides at your pace, and enjoy the day.
Route turn by turn description:
-Leaving Upstreet, head down Upper Prince Street until Grafton Intersection. Turn Right.
-Turn left onto Church Street and ride 1 block to Richmond street (Victoria Row) Land at Receiver Coffee.
-Leaving Receiver Coffee, head down Richmond street to its end, and turn right, down West Street to its end. Turn left toward Victoria Park, and take the designated bike lane.
-At Park’s end, continue on Queen Elizabeth Dr. and ride it (turns into Charlotte) and turn left at Edinburgh.
-Continue and turn right on Moreau street. Turn left onto North Queen Elizabeth Dr to the lights on North River Rd.
-Left onto North River Road, ride out of town. (lower malpaque rd) to Rte 2.
-Left onto Rte 2 until right on Cavendish Rd. at lights (rte 7)
-Ride until New Glasgow Rd junction on left.
-After all the hills, keep right at junction and cross the bridge.
-At PEI Preserves Company, turn right onto Route 258.
-Glasgow Glen Farm will be 2.5k along this road
-Take Route 6 to the right.
-Turn left onto Portage Road at the round about. The Esso stop will be at this intersection.
-1.5K along Portage Road will bring you to the Great Canadian Soap Company.
-Follow Portage Road until the Brackley Road Intersection. Turn left.
-Follow Brackley Point Road into the National Park, and ride the main road or the separated bike lane past the Cove Head Light House.
-Turn Right at Bayshore Road.
-Ride the entire Bayshore Rd. past the golf course, and veer right onto Eastern Rd.
-Turn Right onto Cass’s Rd. and ride its length.
-Turn Right onto Black River Rd and ride it until you come upon Union Rd. (2.6K)
-Climb union Rd. until you reach 2050 Union Rd. on your left. (Jan M.’s place)
-Leaving Jan’s place, continue to the end of Union Rd. Turn Left onto Brackley
-Ride Brackley Pt. Rd either on the road or on the separated bike lane up to the round-about, and go right onto Sherwood Rd.
-Turn left onto Mt. Edward Road, and ride it’s length until the Allen Street Round about.
-Turn Right onto Allen Street, and ride until Upstreet Brewery
