Island EMS paramedics attend to a woman cyclist at the scene of a collision with a car on Prince Street Wednesday about 2 p.m.

A woman cyclist is in hospital after a collision with a car turning into a parking space in downtown Charlottetown today.

The collision with the bicycle happened about 2 p.m. on Prince street close to the corner with Grafton.

A red compact car was facing south, towards the harbour on Prince Street and turning into a parking space next to St. Paul's church on the west-side of the street.

It was just a few metres south past the traffic lights at Grafton Street.

The woman on the bicycle was driving south as well, on the edge of the traveled portion of the road when the collision occurred.

She was not wearing a helmet and suffered injuries to her head after striking the front on the turning car.

The collision is still under investigation.
