Islander Places 3rd at 2013 Road Nationals and Another Islander Goes 5th at Salty Dog 6 Hour MTB Enduro Race
     July 3, 2013 — Mike Connolly

Cory Jay reached the podium last weekend with a Bronze medal at Nationals in the 120km road race for 30-39 yr olds in Lac Megantic Quebec. Jay was disappointed in his performance after a tie for 8th in the Time trial the previous day but got some  redemption in the road race. The winner of the time trial (TT) rode the 15 km course in 19:16.  Jay was 1:03 back with a 20:19 finish.

Another Island racer was ripping it up on the mountain with Ryan Taylor competing in the Salty Dog 6 hour MTB enduro races, one of the biggest races in BC and which had over 600 people(solo and teams) and featured paid professionals attending. It was a tough course with over 300m elevation gain a lap. Taylor did 3330m of climbing through the tough BC single track pacing 5th out of 44 solo racers. Most competitors do this course on a teams and to do this as a solo competitor is no easy task.

Taylor also competed in the 17th Annual Test of Metal in Squamish, B.C. on the challenging 60+-kilometer loop. Ryan (NRG Single speed) of Penticton, placed an impressive 23rd overall on a fully rigid single speed. This was an incredible feat considering Taylor had no gears on his bike and no suspension.
