The Cycling PEI (CPEI) season continues this weekend with the first stage of the 2012 CPEI – McQueen’s Bike Shop Mountain Bike Citizen Series. Saturday, June 9th in East Royalty will be the Riverside Ripper MtB XC event. The day starts with registration from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM at the East Royalty soccer field parking lot at the end of Robertson Road. The first wave of participants should be ready to cross the start line at 10:00 AM.
The event is at a new location this year to raise awareness for the Riverside trails. The course is generally flat and fast with a nice mix of single and double track sections. It also provides a variety of surfaces such as crushed gravel and dirt paths, open fields, and forest floor. An ideal event for beginners!
The general public is advised the park will be in use from 8:30am-2pm for the cycling event. The public is invited to come watch the event and general activities will resume after the race.
All proceeds going towards the development and growth of cycling in the Province. New riders are welcome to attend with categories for all age levels and abilities.
The citizen mountain bike series consists of 4 main events. Event number one is the Riverside Ripper, event number 2 is the Tour de Pants Sunday, July 15th, event number 3 is the Red Mud Mountain Mayhem, Sunday, August 12th, and event number 4 is the 8 Hour Grunt Saturday, September 8th. The final 3 events take place at Brookvale Provincial Park. Participants are given points based on how they finish. The points leader in each category after the 4 events is crowned the overall winner.
