     January 31, 2012 — Mike Connolly

A 55 passenger SMT bus will be leaving PEI for a 3 day trip to New York City to ride the 5 Boroughs 42 mile ride. Participants will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express located right down town a short distance from the start of the ride. We have 26 double rooms booked. Hotel info can be viewed at http://www.hiexpress.com/hotels/us/en/new-york-city/nycff/hoteldetail

Event info can be viewed at http://www.bikenewyork.org/ride/five-boro-bike-tour/

Map of route can be viewed at http://www.nycbikemaps.com/maps/five-boro-bike-tour-map/

All participants will require a passport. If you do not have one you need to apply for one now which takes about 30 days to process. We strongly suggest people have out of country insurance as well.

You will need your own helmet and to look after your own meals.

To make your deposit to confirm your spot please have your cheque, money order or cash to the Cycling PEI office located at 40 Enman Cres. by the deadline or mail to PO BOX 302, Ch'town, C1A 7K7. Make cheques out to Cycling PEI. You can also register online by creating an account with us or use your existing account. Log in and select "make a payment to CPEI" and you can pay using credit card or Paypal.

The prices for the entire package are as follows:

$850 per person based on double occupancy of a hotel room. (If you are traveling on your own, we will find a room mate for you. In this instance, bring ear plugs.  No one tells the truth about snoring.)

$715 per person based on triple occupancy of a hotel room. (If you elect this option, its up to you to sign up the room mates.)

$500 per person based on having four people in a hotel room.  (If you elect this option, its up to you to sign up the room mates.)

$100 off any of the above if a person decides not to enter the ride, and thus does not want a bike rental and event registration fee.

$40 additional fee if a person wants us to reserve a higher end road bike instead of a hybrid or urban bike.  No change in fee if two people request one tandem instead of two single bikes (tandem bikes cost us 2X as much to rent, so for 2 people its a break even situation).

Reminder of the dates: Thursday May 3 - Monday May 7, with the actual ride on Sunday May 6.  A stopover on the way home at LL Bean or other shops will be included.

Please e-mail or phone Mike Connolly asap if you are interested.  CPEI is at 368-4985 and mconnolly@sportpei.pe.ca.  We request a $425 deposit to reserve a seat on the bus, regardless of which price fee you will ultimately pay.

The bus is filling, so please do not delay informing us if you are interested.  Second reminder, you will need a passport to enter the USA.  If you don't already have one, start the process immediately.  If you are not a Canadian citizen, you may need a visa to enter the USA.  Please take the necessary steps to make entrance to USA and Canada as quick and easy as possible.

Refund Policy: Cycling PEI is not an experienced travel agency.  We are trying this trip as a way to get Islanders to a major, fun social bicycle ride.  We cannot afford to loose money on this trip, but we also are not looking to make a significant profit.  If someone needs to back out of a reservation, we will do our best to fill the vacancy and return the payment.  As the travel date approaches, we lose options on the various contracts we signed.  In the month of April, all of the contracts become binding, so the only way we can return money is if someone else wants to come with us.

The ride:  Please Google 5 boroughs ride for details, movie clips, agenda, entertainment in NYC, etc.  I hope you are happily exploring the myriad options in NYC for good food, music and other forms of entertainment.  The ride will take us along the eastern side of Central Park, but not to Strawberry Fields and the Dakota Hotel.  Imagine!
