The first training event for the Summerside Cycling Club in June marked a new edition to the Club's training routes. The Club was training for the criterium event of the PEI Bike Fest on July 15 and 16 in Summerside. Today's course was a 0.9 km loop around the Summerside Industrial Park.
A total of 7 riders were in training today: Chris Gallant (Summerside), Ben Kennedy (Kensington), Chris Silvaggio (Summerside), Leo Flood (Kinkora), Rob Cook (Traveller's Rest), Ernie Schleichkorn (Summerside), and Ken Trenholm (Summerside).
The group started together in the 30 lap training event. The group began to spread apart nearing the first sprint at 10 laps.
Trenholm took the first sprint, followed by Silvaggio, and then Cook.
At the second sprint location (20 laps), Trenholm also took this sprint, followed by Cook and Silvaggio.
All riders who completed the course did so in fashion, each averaging over 30 km/h for the 30 laps of training.
As a new course, all the times set by the riders they will attempt to set faster times the next time out.

The 27 km crit training ride is a part of a series of training rides organized by the Club to improve rider's strength, endurance, and conditioning in order to participate in the July 15 - 16 PEI Bike Fest and the August 5 one day across PEI Biking for Breakfast event.
