Cycling Infrastructure on PEI – a review to date
1. National Park – cycling path completed (except at Covehead Harbor bridge)
2. Bayshore Road – path 80% completed
3. Brookvale – establishment of downhill biking, BMX track and connection of these to the mountain bike trails
4. Provincial Parks – building two pump tracks in summer of ‘09
5. Charlottetown – permanent reserving of a lane in Victoria park for cycling April – Oct.
6. Charlottetown – planning to create an east-west bike lane on Fitzroy St.
7. Charlottetown – planning to create a pump track, possibly in Joseph Ghiz Park
8. Charlottetown – funds to install BMX rails and banks in Victoria Park
9. Charlottetown – mayor writes to TPW, asking for a bike path along an expanded berm on the by-pass
10. Charlottetown – share the road signs appear in 2008; more signs, solar-powered lights for Confederation Trail, bike lockers and racks on order
11. Charlottetown – bike racks for city busses a priority item
12. Stratford – bike users consultation by civic leaders
13. Canada Games 2009 – CPEI gets some cool timing gear
14. National Gov’t/Transporation & Public Works – additional 50 km of Confederation Trail that will connect Wood Islands to Mt. Stewart and the rest of the Trail
15. TPW – establishment of inter-departmental biking committee
16. TPW – filming of two TV ads to promote safer biking on PEI
17. Tourism PEI – installs two outhouses on Confederation Trail; signage considerably enhanced on trail
18. ACOA – Fall of 2008, first inter-provincial meeting to talk about linkages for regional cycling
