The fourth training event (May 30) for the Summerside Cycling Club was a battle between the cyclists and the wind -- with the cyclists winning. Despite 37 km/h wind with 46 km/h gusts acting as feverish side winds, three members of the Club set personal best times on the 12.4 km time trial course.
A total 8 riders came out for the training ride. For three riders, it was their first training ride with the Club: Jules Aucoin (Summerside), Chris Gallant (Summerside), and Jason Linger (Charlottetown). They were joined by Ben Kennedy (Kensington), Wes Jackshaw (Summerside), Chris Silvaggio (Summerside), Leo Flood (Kinkora), and Ken Trenholm (Summerside).
For a second training ride in a row, Ben Kennedy of Kensington improved his ride time on a course. Last Saturday it was the Indian River course; this time the Miscouche course. Kennedy cut away 17 seconds to set a new personal best time at 24:48.
Not to be outdone, new rider to the club for 2006 Chris Silvaggio of Summerside cut 19 seconds off his time, setting the fourth quickest time for the day at 23:08.
The other rider to improve his time was Ken Trenholm, also of Summerside, who improved his time by 5 seconds, having the second quickest time for the day.
For the fourth consecutive training ride, Wes Jackshaw of Summerside had the quickest time for the day.
First time riders on the course posted impressive times despite the challenging winds and tempting of rain. . . they will be out to better their times in two weeks.
