Taking home the yellow jersey in the first stage of the Tour de PEI in Summerside, was Australian’s Rochelle Gilmore (Menikini-Selle Italia –Master Colors). Gilmore, who dominating most of the race, especially on intermediate sprints, is wearing the Tourism PEI yellow jersey and the Scotiabank sprint jersey. Tanja Hennes (Specialized Designs for Women) and France’s Sophie Creux (ESGL 93 GSD Gestion) took second and third place.
The second largest city in Prince Edward Island, Summerside, drew numerous spectators and media despite the in climate weather. Canadian sprinter, Jenny Trew, from the Atlantic cycling team took home forth place and is also wearing the ACOA best Canadian Jersey.
Two Ukrainians involved in a crash were transported to the hospital, but came out with minor injuries, one with a dislocated shoulder and the other with minor bruises.
The Tour de PEI consists of 5 stages, which is continuing tomorrow, through until June 12, 2008. Tomorrow, June 9, we will take you to the Confederation Bridge for a time trail starting at 11:00AM.
