Successful First Annual Terry Fox Ride
     September 18, 2007 — Graeme Carr

First off a big thanks should be passed along to the creator of the event - Russ Melanson.  Second, the people who helped Russ make it a reality were Ira Birt, Mark Bowlan, Ruth Sturz, Mike Connolly, Bev Gerg, and Heather (at the NB/PEI Terry Fox Foundation).

It is hard to believe that after many emails and cooperation of numerous people over the last few months the event is already over!

By the looks and sounds of things the 1st annual Terry Fox ride went off without a hitch...  A total of 15 riders started the event and roughly $1000 was raised in pledges.  It was a beautiful day for a ride in Eastern PEI, not too hot, not too cold, juuuuuussssssstttt right!

The majority of the riders completed the full course 103 kms.  For some of the riders this was the largest pack they ever rode with, providing them an added benefit and level of excitement.  The 11 riders in the front group rode in together to the finish area at Victoria Park, where a little post ride fun and discussion was had while snacking on hotdogs provided by Sizzlers BBQ.

Please tell your cycling friends about it, because next year we hope to double the number of riders.  Word of mouth will turn this into a great mid-September ride for all skill levels.

Thanks to all who participated,

Graeme Carr
