Cycling PEI is holding two sanctioned events in the month of July as part of the Citizen Racing Series. The first event is Stage #2 of the Smooth Cycle Road Bike Series in China Point, Sunday, July 15th, 2007. This is the most popular stage event of the citizen road bike series.
This is a dual event is sponsored by Great Hobbies which includes a morning 9.6 km time trail event from Pownal Arena to McNeil Field. Registration for this event takes place at the Pownal Rink from 8:30 - 9:30 am with the race starting at 10 am. This event consists of a 10 km loop with each category required to ride a different number of loops. The Afternoon event is a Road Ride starting at China Point at 12:30 pm with registration from 11:30 am - 12 noon at the Cherry Valley Community Center. The cost is $10 for the Time Trial and $20 for the Road Ride or $25 for both events.
The short and fast morning time trial from Pownal to Teahill gets participants warmed up for the afternoon main event at China Point.You need to be a CPEI member (Citizen Membership is $30.00 for the year) to participate. You can upgrade from CPEI General Membership for $10. Forms will be available at registration.
The second sanctioned event is the 4th annual Tour de Pants which is the second stage of the 2007 Cycling PEI Dalvay by the Sea Citizen Mountain Bike Series. The event will be a fun filled day of Mountain Biking on PEI. The morning event of the stage is the famed Alpe de Brookvale. This sprint time trial is a loop of a short track course combined with a steep hill climb. Following the time trial will be the cross country event which is suitable for beginner riders looking to try a mountain bike event as well as those experienced racers looking to gain an edge for the Atlantic Mountain Bike Championships (Red Mud Mountain Mayhem 11, August 25th and 26th).
The race will be held at the Brookvale Nordic Centre Sunday, July 22nd, 2007 with registration opening at 8:30am and running till 10:00am. Race start is at 10:30am and the cost is $5.00 for the Alpe de Brookvale, and $20.00 for the Cross Country event. If participants bring a non-perishable food item a savings of $5.00 can be made on registration.
The Citizen Racing Series consists of a series of 8 races, 4 mountain bike events and 4 road events. Points are assigned by place of finish. Overall combined point leaders at the end of the 4 events are declared winners of the entire series.
