Mother's Cross the Line First at Cycling Event

Mother?s continued to be first on peoples mind Sunday morning after the Smooth Cycle Mother?s Day Time Trial with two mother?s crossing the finish line first in their respective categories.

Ruth Sturz finished first in the women?s beginner category in a time of 50 minutes flat while Madeline Hughes-Stretch cross the line first in the women?s sport division with a time of 40 minutes 11 seconds. Mother?s Day is a day for families on PEI and large families were on hand to give support to all participants. This is, if there were not riding themselves as Sturz son Duncan finished 3rd and Hughes brother Derek finished 4th in the U18 male category.

Other riders crossing the line first in their respective categories for the 19 km time trial were Ardele Hynes women?s expect in 36:29; U18 male had Mitch Jay in at 30:28; 55+ male Russ Melanson 35:18; beginner male was Boyd Rose of North Lake at 38:17; Wes Jackshaw 31:30 for sport male; and Tyler LeLacheur won the battle of the Tyler?s in a time of 31:14 in the male expert category.

This Mother?s Day Time Trial event was the first of four stages in the Cycling PEI Smooth Cycle Citizen Road Series. The event was open to all individuals with a bike, helmet and an interest to participate in a great event with proceeds going towards the PEI Children?s Wish Foundation.

The next stage in the Cycling PEI Smooth Cycle Road Series is the China Point stage event on Sunday June 4th. This stage #2 will have both a time trail and a longer road ride. Also during this weekend, on Saturday June 3rd Cycling PEI (CPEI) will be holding a Road Officials course for anyone interested in assisting CPEI with future road events.
